Welsh Junior League 2024 - 2 - Aberdare - 4th May
The 10 young athletes who represented the club on Saturday certainly did us proud! Lots of first-time competitors, fantastically enthusiastic supporters, and some great first places in large, competitive fields. Aberdare, as always, were great hosts and even arranged for the sun to shine.
The day kicked off with Rosie and Jess in the U13G shot putt. Both threw PBs and Rosie took the overall win with 7.30m. George B, Regan and Oliver competed in the Javelin. First timer Regan threw 9.73m, Oliver threw a PB with 9.93m and George B taking 1st place with a mighty 19.93m.
In the U13 mixed relay, Jess, George M, Alfie and Rosie obliterated the field with a storming run from start to finish. The U11 mixed relay was next with Fraser, Nell, George and Regan. They ran amazingly and were second, even more remarkable with 3 of the team this being their first ever competition and 2 just turned 9 in the last few weeks.
Onto the sprints, and we had more great results. Jess and Rosie had solid runs in the 200, Oliver ran well again in the U11B 150 and Nell had a blazing run for first place overall in the U11G 150.
Jess looked strong in her 100m race, getting a PB with 15.9s. George M did a fantastic 100m, winning his heat and coming 3rd overall in a field of 26 in the U13B. Nell took ‘gold’ in the U11G 75m, in a phenomenally speedy 11.2s.
In the long-distance runs, our athletes held their form for the duration despite the heat, and being at the young end of their age groups. Belle ran a PB in the U15G 1500m, with 5:59. Alfie came in 4th in the U13B, with a fantastic time of 5:42. Fraser ran a brilliant race in the U11B 1000m with 4:23 at his first time at this distance.
Rosie continues to conquer her mental block in the High Jump and pushed her season’s best to 1.25m for 2nd place. Alfie and George M competed in the U13B, and Fraser and Regan in the U11B long jump. They all jumped well. George M jumped a PB of 3.75m and Alfie was just short of his PB with 3.09m. Regan and Fraser are both first-time competitors and jumped 2.55m and 2.34m respectively.
All in all, it was a fantastic day - and these athletes should all feel very proud of themselves!
